GENERAL FAQS

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT DURING THE SAME APPOINTMENT?

All first-time clients to the clinic will have to have a consultation with our skincare specialist who will go through medical history, lifestyle, diet, current skincare practices as well as carrying out visual and manual assessment of your skin (skin analysis). This is to ascertain the best course of treatment, assess your suitability for treatment and also to ensure that you’re happy with any treatment discussed.

Subject to the health and condition of your skin at the time of consultation, some treatments like our Bespoke Facial and Dermalux LED can be carried out the same day (if time has been allocated). Most of our other dermo-corrective skin health treatments are subject to patch tests (48 hrs before a treatment) and at home skin preparation for 2-4 weeks* with cosmeceutical grade products which will be tailored to you. Homecare comes first, your treatment starts at home.

Equally if you are unsure after your consultation, and need some time to think, that’s absolutely fine, take all the time you need. Each treatment takes a different amount of time, ranging from 30 to 90 minutes, so if you are keen to have a specific treatment or treatments, this would need to be raised when booking your appointment, otherwise we would need to stagger your treatments to the next available appointment.

*on average – at home prep is dependent on the health of the skin and the type of treatment. Prep-time is unique to the individual and will be advised upon during your consultation.

HOW CAN I TRUST YOUR PRACTIONERS ARE TRAINED PROPERLY?

There are many people these days claiming to be ‘qualified’ aesthetic practitioners and sadly that isn’t the case, and with plenty of horror stories out there, we fully understand why this question is important to so many of you. Firstly, MD Skincare firmly believe that no matter how skilful someone may be at delivering a facial treatment, if they can’t analyse, identify and interpret the needs of a client’s skin first, then there is no point…just because you can drive a car, doesn’t make you Lewis Hamilton! We always start with the skin first, getting to know your skin, getting to know you, understanding and interpreting your skin goals and then formulating the best treatment pathway to achieve those goals.

There is also far more which goes into running an aesthetics clinic, from understanding an individual’s skin concerns and skin dysmorphia to reviewing progress, dealing with adverse reactions and supporting clients with expert aftercare and advice. It’s not just about the treatment itself, it’s what happens before and after the treatment that’s the most important aspect of a client’s journey with us. That’s why we only ever employ highly skilled aesthetic practitioners who are CIBTAC Level 4 qualified, who come to us with a wealth of advanced skin knowledge and hands-on experience.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE RESULTS TO SHOW?

There is a visible difference immediately after this treatment where skin looks healthy, hydrated, refined and glowy.

DOES IT HURT?

To say that this treatment includes a combination of different technologies and techniques many clients find this to be a very relaxing facial which they can actual feel working. Your practitioner will talk you through what sensations to expect as they progress through each stage of your treatment.

Ultrasonic Cleansing – feels like a vibrating massage on the skin.

Mild Peels/Enzyme Resurfacer – depending on the formula used you can expect to feel a slight tingling, warming or smarting of the skin.

Microcurrent Infusion – A comfortable vibration on the skin

Microdermabrasion – like a mini vacuum cleaner with suction passing over the skin with a gentle abrasive feeling from the diamond tip.

Radio Frequency – It feels like a warm facial massage or the feeling of having sunshine on your face. The temperature is akin to a hot water bottle or a hot stone massage. The gentle heating is transient as the applicator is constantly moving over the skin.

Electroporation – is a tingly sensation like low-level pins and needles, again the feeling is transient as the applicator is constantly moving over the skin’s surface.

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

Even after one treatment, clients experience a considerable change in their skin’s texture and quality. Although results can be seen after the first treatment more significant results are cumulative. The treatment is progressive, where the full benefits are seen after several weeks, so a course of treatment is recommended for more significant results with monthly booster treatments to maintain results.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

It is important to fully understand that advanced skin treatments are often stimulating so some mild, temporary reactions are occasionally expected and will be discussed during your consultation.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR THIS TREATMENT?

If extractions are included within your bespoke treatment, you can expect to be slightly red and blotchy immediately afterwards. Some peels and other treatments may also leave the skin pink and mildly flaking for several days, however for pre-party ‘red carpet ready’ we avoid the more stimulating aspects to leave your skin calm, bright, plump and glowing.

WHAT CAN I DO AS PART OF THE AFTERCARE?

Follow and stick to the aftercare given to you by your practitioner. They will go through this in person with you after your treatment and provide you with a written copy as well so that you have it to refer to. This will include (but not exhaustive) using the recommended aftercare products to support the skin and maintain results, for the first 24-48 hours avoid intense exercise, avoid extreme temperatures, avoid swimming, and stay out of direct sunlight. It is also important to not use tanning-beds, not to pick, pull, touch the skin on your face, avoid certain facial treatments including waxing, bleaching, hair removal, use SPF daily and drink plenty of water.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

£150 per treatment. This is a 90-minute treatment and incorporates both the face and the neck. Course prices available.

RADIO FREQUENCY SKIN CONTOURING

WHAT IS RADIO FREQUENCY?

Radio-Frequency provides improvement to the facial contours with a skin tightening action where gentle waves of radio frequency are passed into the skin, creating comfortable heat in the lower layers. This heat kick starts skin functions that slow down with age, effectively making the skin behave as if it were younger. This leads to a tightening of elastin fibres, more collagen production and increased turnover of skin cells. This combination has a profound effect on the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and poor/sluggish complexions.

HOW DOES RADIO FREQUENCY ACTUALLY WORK?

The driving force behind the Dual Injector Pro+ is Radio Frequency + Electroporation + LED. Radio frequency stimulates your body’s natural healing abilities, tightening and realigning elastin fibres while stimulating the production of new collagen. The effect is tighter skin with less lines and wrinkles. Perfect for any area where loose skin or aging skin is an issue i.e. the face, neck and jawline,

Electroporation – uses an electro-magnetic pulse to temporarily open up the channels in skin cells to push topically applied nutrients deeper into the skin. The effective heating from the radio frequency further enhances the skin tissues permeability to macromolecules in the therapeutic substances applied to the skin so that they can be deeply absorbed. Active substances, like hyaluronic acid, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals can therefore penetrate the skin without breaking the skin as with traditional injection.

Polychromatic Light Therapy (LED) – is simultaneously applied to the skin from the handpiece to enhance the results. Light therapy is proven to stimulate the healing processes further providing significant collagen stimulation from a single treatment which leads to better toning and a contouring effect. Blue Light– Reduces inflammation, provides an anti-bacterial effect and improves skin clarity without irritation. It also has a calming effect for problem skin conditions. Red Light – Energises cells to accelerate renewal, facilitating tissue repair & rejuvenation. It boosts collagen and elastin production and increase hydration, restoring vitality and glow.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

After a thorough consultation, your skin will be cleansed, followed by the application of topical skin restoration cream- mask which supports the skin and enables the applicator to glide over the skin’s surface. Your practitioner will then direct the applicator across the neck and face, delivering the radio-frequency energy into the skin. Although the full face and neck will be treated, your practitioner will focus in on your key areas of concerns i.e. jawline, nose-to-mouth lines. When the Radio-Frequency has been delivered into the skin, the cream-mask will be removed, and a bespoke cocktail of vitamins, minerals and active ingredients will be topically applied to the skin and product infusion using electroporation part of the treatment will begin. Excess product will be massaged into the skin, then a final growth factor cream and SPF will be applied to seal everything in.

WHAT IS RADIO FREQUENCY USED FOR?

  • Overall rejuvenation of skin health
  • Improved skin tone & texture
  • Tighter, firmer skin
  • A lifted appearance and improved facial contours
  • Reduction of fine lines & wrinkles
  • Stimulation of fibroblasts for collagen production
  • Enhanced penetration of active ingredients
  • Increased blood flow, feeding the skin with fresh oxygen and nutrients
  • No recovery or down time

CAN ANYONE HAVE A RADIO FREQUENCY TREATMENT?

All of the technologies in the Dual Injector Pro+ are safe and proven effective. As with any results driven treatment certain contraindications will apply (see below). Although this treatment has a high suitability rating for most skin types due to the ability of individual technology control. With Dual Injector Pro+ your practitioner will select the best power and setting to suit your individual requirements, allowing us to create a bespoke treatment tailored to your skin.

The Dual Injector Pro+ treatment cannot be performed on clients who are/has:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Heart disease
  • Heart murmur or irregular heart rate
  • Has a Pacemaker or other type of heartrate balancer
  • Epilepsy
  • Ulcers

  • Cancer

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE RESULTS TO SHOW?

There is a visible difference immediately after this treatment where skin looks firmer, oxygenated, healthy and hydrated. The treatment is progressive, where the full benefits are seen after several weeks, so a course of treatments is recommended for more significant results.

DOES IT HURT?

Most clients say what a comfortable and relaxing treatment this is.

We recommend a course of x8 treatments (1 per week) followed by monthly maintenance treatments. Even after one treatment, clients experience a considerable change in their skin’s texture and quality. Although results can be seen after the first treatment more significant results are cumulative.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The treatment is progressive, where the full benefits are seen after several weeks, so a course of treatments is recommended for more significant results with monthly booster treatments to maintain results. We recommend an initial course of x8 treatments (1 per week) followed by monthly maintenance treatments. Your practitioner will put together a tailored treatment plan for you after your consultation. Results are unique to the individual.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

It is important to fully understand that advanced skin treatments are often stimulating so some mild, temporary reactions are occasionally expected and will be discussed during your consultation.

Reactions from treatment include: skin redness and flushing, tightness, itching and tenderness. Erythema (redness & heat in the skin) can occur following treatment but will resolve within a few hours.

Effects will usually typically resolve within hours and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day. Some people may react differently and may experience these reactions for longer. However, these reactions are temporary and typically resolve within 3-4 days as the skin returns to normal.

The RF + Electroporation procedure may cause areas of bruising although this would not normally be expected to occur, the eye contour being the area at most risk. Any such bruising will be temporary. If you are taking any medication or dietary supplements that can affect platelet function and bleeding time, the severity and period of bruising can be extended, also the presence of petechiae (small red or purple spots beneath the skin) may be observed.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR THIS TREATMENT?

You can expect to be slightly red and blotchy immediately afterwards, but many people are able to return to their normal activities the same day.

WHAT CAN I DO AS PART OF THE AFTERCARE?

  • Follow and stick to the aftercare given to you by your practitioner. They will go through this in person with you after your treatment and provide you with a written copy as well so that you have it to refer to.
  • Gently wash the treated area on the same day, but do not rub or massage the face for 24 hours.
  • Cleanse using a mild cleanser.
  • Make up can be applied once the skin has settled.
  • Refrain from extreme temperatures such as intensive sun light, saunas, sunbed, steam bath, and hot showers for the rest of the day.
  • Do not participate in activities that may cause excessive perspiration for 12 hours following treatment.
  • Apply a sunscreen with a minimum SPF30+ on a daily basis.
  • Avoid electrolysis, waxing, bleaching (face), depilatory creams, laser hair removal for at least 72 hours.
  • Do not swim in chlorinated water for the rest of the day.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

£150 per treatment. This is a 90-minute treatment and incorporates the face and neck. Course price available.

MICRONEEDLING

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a skin regeneration treatment which may also be known as skin needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). It is a technique which triggers the healing mechanisms of the skin to naturally induce new skin tissue production as a means of addressing the skin ageing process. The development of new collagen, elastin and the water retaining hyaluronic acid is stimulated in the dermis to create a firmer more youthful skin tone while the cells of the epidermis are equally regenerated giving the complexion a finer and smoother texture. In addition, this treatment will help to reduce pigmentation, reduce pore size, fortify a thin reactive skin, reduce low-level acne and acne scarring, and revitalise tired, lack lustre skin.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING USED FOR?

Microneedling helps with so many things, from acne scarring to the wrinkles on your neck. Primarily it remodels collagen, reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, reduces pigmentation, reduces pore size & smooths skin texture. Reduces acne scarring and fortifies a thin, reactive skin.

What can’t it do well, it can’t help with acne – in fact, if you have active acne, you aren’t a good candidate for microneedling (we first need to reduce the inflammation and get the acne under control, this can be addressed with the right homecare, Dermalux LED and Chemical Peel treatments – subject to consultation)

The use of the SkinPen Precision System cannot be used on clients who:

  • Have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s)
  • Have active acne
  • Have open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s)
  • Have an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics
  • Have a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane)

WHAT DEVICE DO YOU USE?

The mechanised microneedling device which will be used in your treatment is the SkinPen® Precision by Crown Aesthetics. It is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device approved for use on the face and an area of the body, clinically proven to improve the appearance of wrinkles and acne scars. It is of the highest professional quality with needles made of titanium surgical steel. These devices have been rigorously tested for safety and bear the CE quality mark and are FDA approved. All needles are single use and disposed of after each treatment.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

First the skin is thoroughly cleansed. Then you will initially have a topical local anaesthetic cream applied to your skin in order to make the treatment very comfortable. This will be left on your skin for 30 minutes and the effects of this numbing cream will last about one hour thereafter – so long enough to last for the duration of the microneedling treatment,  but it will have worn off by the time you leave the clinic. The numbing cream is removed, and a hypoallergenic, antimicrobial topical skin sanitiser is applied to the skin to deliver optimal hygiene to the skins’ surface. A layer of SkinFuse Lift HG gel is applied to protect the skin against abrasion and friction keeping it comfortable during treatment. Your practitioner will then select the depth on the microneedle cartridge and begins treatment. The SkinPen® Precision procedure itself is quick, taking approximately 30 minutes. You will experience sensations from a mild pressure to a prickling sensation and your practitioner will monitor your level of discomfort carefully in order to adjust the treatment within your tolerance.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Microneedling isn’t a one-off ‘facial’ it is a corrective course of treatment, results are cumulative, so a treatment plan is recommended for optimal results. Your practitioner will recommend a course of treatment based on your individual goals. Maintenance of your procedure might require multiple treatments. This is normally a course of 3 – 6 treatments depending on your skin concerns and goals. This will be discussed in your consultation.

DOES IT HURT?

Overall, it is a comfortable procedure. Based on your needs, your practitioner may apply a topical numbing agent to the treatment area. You will be aware of slight pressure on the skin and the slight vibration of SkinPen during the procedure, but sensation is minimal especially if numbing cream is applied. You may experience a mild prickling/scratching sensation, especially on facial areas where the skin is closer to bone, like on the forehead and bridge of the nose. Your skin will feel very warm (like a mild sunburn) by the end of treatment.

WILL I NEED MORE THAN ONE TREATMENT TO ACHIEVE MY DESIRED RESULTS?

Treatment goals will be discussed with your practitioner based on your skin concerns. In the clinical study, groups of patients were treated with either x3 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart and x6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart dependent on the skin indications being treated. It is recommended to avoid other facial aesthetic treatments the month following your SkinPen Precision treatment.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE RESULTS TO SHOW?

Results are unique to the individual and dependent on what skin concerns are being treated i.e. acne scarring. Some clients have reported seeing visible improvements in skin texture 4 weeks after their first treatment. The treatment is progressive, where the full benefits are seen after several weeks, so a course of treatment is recommended for more significant results. Remodelling of type III and type I collagen can continue for up to 12 months post procedure, so ongoing care of the skin is essential to ensure full recovery and regeneration.

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?

Results are unique to the individual. While individual results may vary, in clinical study, the results were evaluated 6 months after the final treatment. After this, additional treatments may be needed to maintain your desired result. When supported with the daily am & pm use of cosmeceutical grade skincare including reapplication of SPF throughout the day (which forms part of the ongoing maintenance) results have been shown to last on average between 6-12 months, depending on the individual.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR THIS TREATMENT?

Minimal post-procedure effects. The skin will feel warm and appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure, like a mild to moderate sunburn. Additionally, the most common treatment responses experienced were dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions resolved over time without any further complications. This will all be discussed in your consultation.

WHAT CAN I DO AS PART OF THE AFTERCARE?

Soothing aftercare is included and provided after each treatment. Your practitioner will go through your aftercare regime with you and provide you with Skinfuse® Lift and Rescue gel, a clean, non-cytotoxic hydrogel used to support healing and prevent the skin from drying out post-treatment.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Microneedling treatments carried out professionally are very safe procedures, which carry minimal risk of adverse skin reactions. After the treatment your skin will appear red, flushed, and feel warm – this will seem very similar to a mild sunburn. In the days following your treatment, depending on the intensity and depth of the procedure and the condition of your skin, you may experience a tight feeling, tender sensations, and light flaking of the skin for 2 -3 days. It is vital that you follow all the necessary aftercare advice that your practitioner will give to you in order to nurture your skin through the recovery phase and ensure the most positive results. Failure to care for your skin post treatment may result in your skin failing to heal properly and the skin can then suffer damage.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

A course of x3 treatments = £600

A course of x6 treatments = £1200

Pay as you go = £250 per treatment

Each treatment includes a prep-peel, bio cellulose recovery mask, Dermalux LED and aftercare products.

CHEMICAL PEEL

WHAT IS CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel is a safe and effective skin-resurfacing and regenerative procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to peel away the top layers. The skin which grows back after a chemical peel is smoother and younger looking.  Chemical peels are used to treat age lines and wrinkles, pigmentation irregularities, uneven skin texture, oily or acne skins and scar tissue.  Peels are used typically on the face although treatment may be provided to other areas of the body such as the neck, chest, hands, feet, arms and back. A chemical peel can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures. Chemical peels vary in their depth of penetration from very superficial, to superficial and then to medium with deep peels being confined to a surgical procedure.  The choice of which peel will be used on your skin will depend on your skin condition and your desired results. After an in-depth consultation and skin assessment your practitioner will advise you on this.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED? DOES IT HURT?

A peel treatment is a relatively quick procedure taking between 20 – 30 minutes in total.  After your skin is cleansed and prepped, the peel is painted onto your skin in a very fine layer and left on for between 30 seconds and 5 minutes (depending on the type of peel used) with some of the very gentle peels being left on the skin for up to 10 minutes.  After the given time your peel will be neutralized and removed with cold water and a cold compress will be applied.  Peels should not be painful, but you will experience some level of discomfort depending on your personal sensitivity threshold. You will experience sensations from a mild tingling sensation, to pins and needles, itchiness, heat and to a feeling likened to having ants on your skin.  Your practitioner will monitor your level of discomfort carefully and if at any time you feel very uncomfortable the peel will be removed straight away.

WHO CAN HAVE A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Everybody! Using our thorough consultation procedure, we can work together to find the peel best suited to you and your skin concerns. We can work on different depths of skin tissue depending on the peel selected and every peel is progressive and always supported by at home skin-prep before each treatment. This not only prepares your skin but enhances the results of treatment as well as minimising any adverse side effects.

WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS USED FOR?

  • Purify and oxygenate the skin, leaving it hydrated and free from impurities.
  • Improve skin texture, close dilated pores, and increase epidermal thickness.
  • Stimulates cell renewal, collagen and elastin production.
  • Deal with the effects of skin aging, reducing wrinkles and maintaining elasticity.
  • Even out skin tone, provide brightness and reduce skin imperfections.
  • Lighten and reduce skin hyperpigmentation, providing a depigmenting action.
  • Reduce the signs of acne and improve the appearance of scars.

WHAT BRANDS DO YOU USE?

Mesoestetic, Clinicare, Fillmed

The peeling products that will be used for your treatment have been chosen for their efficacy and safety.  The peel formulations include varying strengths of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) in varying formation strengths and combinations.  These are organic acids and are very safe for cosmetic treatment. Your practitioner will select the peel product most suited to your skin.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE RESULTS TO SHOW?

To obtain the best results adequate skin preparation and a full post-treatment follow-up are essential. Your practitioner will advise you on the wide range of products available for home use designed to prepare, improve and extend the results obtained in clinic. Results are unique to the individual and dependent on what skin concerns are being treated i.e. pigmentation, acne, acne scarring. Some clients have reported seeing visible improvements in skin texture in as little as 4 weeks after their first treatment. The treatment is progressive, where the full benefits are seen after several weeks, so a course of treatment is recommended for more significant results.

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?

Performing a peel several times a year helps maintain a healthy appearance and improve skin texture as a prevention against aging. However, the frequency will always depend on the type of peel applied and the skin indication being treated. Results are unique to the individual. While individual results may vary, in clinical study, the results were evaluated 3 months after the final treatment. After this, additional treatments may be needed to maintain your desired result. We recommend:

1 x course of 6 peels, where 1 x peel is administered every 2 weeks. Maximum 2 courses a year (3-month gap between courses) Maintenance peels can be carried out x1 per month. For deeper peels it is recommend to perform a maintenance session every 6 months. When supported with the daily am & pm use of cosmeceutical grade skincare including reapplication of SPF throughout the day which forms part of the ongoing maintenance.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Reactions to chemical peels are rare but can include discomfort, peeling, redness & inflammation, scabbing, infection, scarring, hyper & hypo pigmentation, recurrence of cold sores, acne breakouts and prolonged sensitivity to wind and sun. A regenerating peel treatment imparts a controlled level of wounding to your skin to prompt it to rebuild more youthful tissue.  If you do not support the skin through the healing process by complying with the aftercare advice given to you by your practitioner, then you risk the skin condition deteriorating or struggling to repair. This can lead to not only an unsatisfactory result but more radically the skin may tear, become infected, scar, or become hyperpigmented.  Thus, your compliance with the aftercare advice is imperative.

However, there are certain circumstances and medical conditions in which treatment may prove to be unsuitable which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Active cancer
  • Radiation treatment/chemotherapy in preceding 6/12 months
  • Invasive medical treatment within the last 6 -12 months including surgery
  • Photosensitising medication
  • Roaccutane
  • Antibiotics
  • Blood thinning medication – i.e. Warfarin
  • Any history of Anaphylaxis
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Diabetes
  • Immunosuppressant diseases such as Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR THIS TREATMENT?

Peel treatments carried out professionally are very safe procedures which carry minimal risk of adverse skin reactions.  Depending on the intensity and depth of your peel you may experience light flaking of the skin for 2 -3 days with a superficial peel and this will increase to more extensive sheathing for 3 -5 days for deeper peels.  It is only the medical strength peels which sheath the skin over 1 – 3 weeks.  Your practitioner will discuss the specific downtime you can expect for the peel you receive before they proceed with any treatment to ensure that you are completely happy with the nature of the treatment.

After a peel, your skin may look slightly pink for a few hours, but this will usually subside within 12 – 24 hours.  Many people have no redness at all.  Your skin will be more sensitive than normal for a few days especially to sunlight, so it is absolutely essential that you wear a sunscreen while your skin is recovering.  A feeling of tightness is also very normal for 1 – 5 days post peeling.

WHAT CAN I DO AS PART OF THE AFTERCARE?

Follow and stick to the post-post procedure aftercare given to you by your practitioner. Your practitioner will go through this with you during your consultation, after your treatment and email you a copy. Including but not limited to:

  • Do not peel, pick, exfoliate, scratch, or scrape the skin, or any loose/flaking skin resulting from the treatment. This must come off in its own time with no assistance, ignoring this advice can lead to scarring.
  • Avoid AHA’s, BHA’s and Retinol (unless prescribed) for 14 days.
  • Avoid exercise for up to 14 days after treatment.
  • Avoid waxing, bleaching and hair removal treatments to the face for up to 14 days after treatment.
  • Avoid swimming, saunas, and self-tan for 14 days after.
  • Sunbeds – NEVER!
  • Wait until the skin is fully intact and healed.

BLEMISH REMOVAL

WHAT IS NON-SURGICAL BLEMISH REMOVAL (NSBR)?

Non-Surgical Blemish Removal is a very safe, effective, and quick procedure involving the removal of: Telangiectasia (red veins), Spider Naevi, Skin Tags, Cherry Angiomas (blood spots), Seborrheic Keratosis, Milia, Sebaceous Hyperplasia and Viral Warts using electrical currents. It is commonly known as advanced electrolysis and has traditionally been carried out by clinical therapists who have initially qualified in electrolysis hair removal and then moved into this area of advanced practice.

WHAT IS NSBR USED FOR?

Telangiectasia, Spider Nevus or Thread Veins are skin capillaries which have lost their ability to constrict back into the skin. They are like the fine twigs on the branches of a tree where the blood is merely diverted to an alternative ‘branch’ or capillary and the blood supply to the tissues remains fully functional.  The same techniques are used for Spider Naevi and Cherry Angiomas or blood spots.

For the removal of Seborrheic Keratosis, Seborrheic Warts, Sebaceous Hyperplasia, Viral Warts, Skin Tags and certain types of Nevus* (subject to GP approval) the Short-Wave Diathermy current cauterises and cuts through the tissue with its subsequent removal. The blood supply to nourish any further growth of the lesion is sealed off and the blemish will heal fully within a few days to a couple of weeks leaving minimal, if any, marking to the skin.

Milia can be treated by Short-Wave Diathermy or micro-lance extraction. With Short-Wave Diathermy the fatty content of these lesions is vaporised by the electrical current and the milia will clear without marking the skin. If the lipid dryness of the skin is not addressed or regular exfoliation is not undertaken, these lesions can reoccur. With micro-lance extraction, a tiny sterile needle is used to pierce the skin, creating and exit point for the fatty content to be manually extracted using light pressure.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

The treatment uses a Short-Wave Diathermy electrical current which passes heat into the skin.  This cauterises the tissue to seal surface blood vessels or to lift away excessively keratinised lesions.

After the skin is cleansed and sanitised a very fine needle probe is used to pass the heat of the electrical current into the skin tissue, in and around the blemish being treated. Your practitioner will treat one lesion at time, applying the current to the skin intervals to manage your comfort throughout the treatment. Aloe Vera and/or Witch Hazel Gel is applied to the skin to cool, soothe, and support healing. Depending on the type of blemish being treated a latex-free plaster may also be applied post-procedure.

DOES IT HURT?

This probe is very fine, and the electrical current is very localised that only the smallest amount of discomfort is experienced and for most people say there is very little discomfort. The sensation is likened to a hair being plucked, a hot scratch or a mild pinprick.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE RESULTS TO SHOW & HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

The removal of thread veins with advanced electrolysis is generally permanent but further damaged vessels can arise and subsequently take their place depending on the skin condition and the extrinsic and intrinsic factors which influence the skin’s sensitivity. The permanent removal of these lesions is generally achieved in one or possibly two treatments depending on their size.

For the removal of Seborrheic Keratosis, Seborrheic Warts, Sebaceous Hyperplasia, Viral Warts, Skin Tags and certain types of Nevus* (subject to GP approval) The permanent removal of these lesions is generally achieved in one or possible two – three treatments depending on their size.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR THIS TREATMENT? ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

After a short-wave diathermy treatment, the area may feel warm and tingling for a few hours.  For a few days the area treated will be sensitive, show redness and a little swelling and for the deeper lesions there will be scabbing.  Where blood vessels have been treated you may find that the vessel shows darker for a few days after the procedure – this is the blood drying in the sealed vessel and will fade with time.

Provided that the correct aftercare instructions are followed, and no infection is allowed to develop, the risks of any scarring are minimal.  Some of the deeper lesions may however leave a faint residual pink mark on lighter skins or a deeper pigmented area on darker skins.  You must notify your practitioner if you are prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, raised scarring or keloid scarring as these issues will either contraindicate or restrict your treatment.

WHAT CAN I DO AS PART OF THE AFTERCARE?

  • Keep the area clean using a mild antiseptic solution
  • Do not touch or pick at the area.
  • Avoid exposing the area to any extremes of heat or extreme cold (tepid warm water only)
  • Avoid harsh, perfumed, astringent or alcohol containing products in the area.
  • Do not go swimming in a chlorinated pool for one week.
  • Do not have any other clinical skin treatment until the lesion has fully healed.
  • Avoid make up on the area for 24 hours unless of the mineral makeup type specifically formulated for post procedural application

To give your skin the best chance of full and rapid healing do not put your body’s resources under undue strain for the next few days e.g. excessive gym work, other regenerative treatments, laser / IPL hair removal etc. as this will overload the wound healing responses of the body and therefore your skin will struggle to recover.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

£60 for 30 min treatment. Subject to consultation.
